Be Part of the Action
Masterton Motorplex simply couldn’t operate without volunteers.
Every race meeting relies on a team of people working both on the track and behind the scenes to keep everything running safely and smoothly. Some have been involved in drag racing for decades, while others started out knowing very little about the sport.
You don’t need to be a drag racing expert to get involved. If you’re reliable, willing to lend a hand and keen to be part of the team, we’d love to hear from you.
There’s a Role for Almost Everyone
There are plenty of different ways to help at the Motorplex, and not every job involves standing beside the drag strip.
Our volunteers help with areas such as track preparation, staging and race operations, competitor and spectator gates, parking, pit activities, event setup and pack-down, grounds and facility maintenance, administration and plenty more.
Some roles require training or experience, but many can be learned on the job alongside one of our experienced team members.
Whether you’re interested in helping at race meetings, lending a hand behind the scenes, or have a particular skill you think could be useful, there may be a place for you.
We’re Looking for Volunteers
We’re currently looking for people to join the team in a number of areas. Some roles require particular skills or training, while for others we’ll show you everything you need to know.
Chute Packers
Help competitors by safely rolling their parachutes between runs. Training and guidance can be provided, so previous experience isn’t essential. You’ll also assist the track crew with various tasks around the end of the track. A good level of physical fitness is essential.
Crash Crew
Join the team responsible for responding to incidents and helping keep competitors safe. This is a more specialised role, with appropriate training provided. A good level of physical fitness is essential, and automotive hands-on experience and knowledge is a benefit.
Track Spotters
Be part of the on-track team keeping an eye on racing and track conditions. You’ll help identify debris, fluid, track issues or anything else that needs attention before the next pair of cars runs. A good level of physical fitness is essential.
Registration
Help welcome racers when they arrive and get them through the registration process. This is a great role if you’re organised, comfortable dealing with people and prefer being part of the action without working trackside.
Pit Runners
Help keep the meeting moving by communicating with racers in the pits and making sure the right competitors are ready when they’re needed in the staging lanes. You’ll get plenty of steps in and be right amongst the race teams.

More Than Just Race Day
A huge amount of work happens at Masterton Motorplex when there aren’t any race cars on the track.
Throughout the year our volunteers maintain and improve the venue, prepare for upcoming meetings and tackle all sorts of jobs around the property. From mowing lawns and painting to repairs, construction, electrical work and general maintenance, there is nearly always something happening.
If race-day volunteering isn’t your thing but you’re handy with tools, machinery, a paintbrush or simply don’t mind getting stuck in, we’d still love to hear from you.

Volunteering is a great way to see another side of drag racing, meet some good people and become part of the team that makes racing at Masterton possible.
You don’t have to commit to every meeting or give up every weekend. Even if you can only help occasionally, that contribution can make a difference.
