Masterton Motorplex is one of New Zealand’s premier drag racing venues, with a proud history and a strong connection to the people who have helped build and support the sport over the years.
Located in the Wairarapa, the Motorplex hosts a full calendar of drag racing throughout the season, from grassroots events and opportunities for newcomers through to major national meetings featuring some of the quickest and most spectacular race cars in the country.
The venue has grown and developed considerably over the years, with ongoing improvements to the track, facilities and infrastructure helping establish Masterton Motorplex as an important part of New Zealand drag racing.
Behind it all is a dedicated club and a large team of volunteers. From preparing the venue and running race meetings to maintaining the facilities and continually improving the track, an enormous amount of work happens behind the scenes to keep the Motorplex operating.
Whether you’re a racer, crew member, spectator, volunteer or simply a motorsport fan, Masterton Motorplex is a place to experience drag racing up close and be part of a passionate motorsport community.
Racers and Crew Camping
Racers and crew are welcome to camp at Masterton Motorplex on Friday and Saturday nights during race meetings. A designated camping area is available at the track, or competitors may camp within their allocated pit space.
Toilets are available, however there are no showers or powered sites due to the camping area’s distance from the main buildings.
If you’re camping in your pit space, please be considerate of those around you and make sure tents, vehicles and other equipment remain within your allocated area.
Please note that the gates close at 9.00pm on Friday night, with no entry available after this time.
Camping at the Motorplex is for racers and crew only.
Spectator Facilities
We want your day at Masterton Motorplex to be as enjoyable as possible, and there are plenty of facilities around the venue to make your visit comfortable.
Our main spectator area includes seating for approximately 1,200 people, along with plenty of standing room around the public areas of the track. Most viewing areas are slightly elevated, giving spectators a great view of the racing.
A large free spectator car park is available, and you’ll find a variety of food, coffee and cold drink vendors on both the grandstand and pit sides of the venue. Trade displays may also operate behind the main grandstands and near the VIP area at the beginning of the pits on Sandi Lane.
Permanent toilets are located behind the main grandstand, with additional portable toilets positioned around the venue and throughout the pit area.
Visit the Pits
One of the great things about drag racing is being able to get up close to the cars and teams. The pit area is open to spectators free of charge, so you’re welcome to wander through, check out the race cars and see what happens behind the scenes.
Please remember that the pits are an active motorsport area. Race vehicles and support vehicles are regularly moving through the pits, and drivers may have limited visibility and may not be able to see or hear pedestrians nearby.
Please take care at all times in the pit area and keep children under close supervision. Never allow children to wander through the pits unattended.
Spectator Accommodation
On-site camping is not available for spectators, but there is a wide range of accommodation available throughout Masterton and the wider Wairarapa, including motels, hotels, holiday parks and campgrounds to suit different budgets.

Alcohol in the Pit Area
Masterton Motorplex maintains a strict NO ALCOHOL policy in the entire pit area while racing is underway.
Alcohol must not be consumed in the pits by competitors, crew members, spectators or any other person until racing has finished for the day. The restriction is automatically lifted once the day’s racing has been completed.
Random breath testing of drivers and crew members may be carried out at the discretion of the Masterton Motorplex Track Coordinator and under the control of an officer of the New Zealand Police.
Failure to comply with the alcohol policy may result in immediate disqualification from racing and/or removal from the venue at the discretion of the Masterton Motorplex Track Coordinator.
