DAD’S DRAGS – RACER ENTRY INFORMATION

New to drag racing? Dad’s Drags is a great event to give it a go. Our Getting Started guide explains what to expect, what you need to bring, and how everything works on the day.

COSTS

The maximum total cost to enter and race is $100:

  • Gate entry: $20
  • Day Affiliation: $30 (if you don’t have an NZDRA licence)
  • Race registration: $50

EFTPOS is available at the gate. Registration desk is CASH ONLY.

You can enter online, or enter on the day using the print entry form.

Extra Driver – $50

One extra driver can share the same vehicle, with a maximum of two drivers per vehicle.

The extra driver must enter on the day and must meet all the same requirements as the main driver.

  • Additional driver: $20
  • Day Affiliation: $30 (if they don’t have an NZDRA licence)

Total additional cost: $50 (if a Day Affiliation is required)

Passenger – $30

One passenger is allowed, with a maximum of two people in the vehicle.

Complete the Passenger Form, or sign up on the day.

Passengers are allowed all day, not just during qualifying. No passengers under 12 years of age.

Additional cost: $30


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

For the full rules, refer to the NZDRA Rulebook.

Driver

  • Minimum of a current Restricted civil driver licence.
  • Lace-up shoes, sleeves and long pants must be worn. Overalls are recommended.
  • Drivers must wear tidy apparel.
  • Drivers in open vehicles must have their arms and legs covered – no shorts or singlets.
  • One crew member is permitted per vehicle. The driver is responsible for their crew member at all times.

Helmet

An open-face or full-face helmet must meet one of the following standards:

  • SNELL SA2005, SA2010 or SA2015
  • SNELL M2005, M2010 or M2015
  • SFI 31.1 or SFI 41.1
  • FIA 8860-2004 or 8860-2010
  • AS/NZS 1698:2006
  • AS or NZS 1698
  • European Standard R22 – ‘E’ Mark, 02, 03, 04 or 05 Series

Vehicle

  • Street legal tyres only – no slicks.
  • Vehicle must have a current WoF and registration.
  • Radiator overflow must have a minimum capacity of 600 ml.
  • Dual accelerator springs are required.
  • Battery: OE brackets are permitted. If modified, the battery mounting must meet the requirements in the NZDRA Rulebook.

WHAT’S HAPPENING ON THE TRACK?

No Prep

There is no track prep for Dad’s Drags, and street legal tyres only are permitted – no slicks.

Racing Format

  • Eligible class for the Ultimate Street Car Showdown: C8 Super Street.
  • Brackets will be determined on the day based on qualifying E.T.
  • Heads-up bracket racing and Dial-Your-Own (DYO) format T.B.C.
  • Racer Return – if you’re knocked out in an elimination round, you can keep racing.
  • 10.9 or faster breakout: First infraction – warning. Second infraction – disqualified.

RACING AT DAD’S DRAGS THIS SUNDAY? PLEASE READ!

If you haven’t entered online you can still enter on the day.

Whether you’re already entered or you’re planning to sign up on Sunday morning, here’s what you need to know.

GATES OPEN – 7:00 AM

Gate entry is $20 per person, with kids 14 and under FREE.

Please do not park on Manaia Road before 7:00 am. If you arrive early, please wait on South Belt Road until the gates open.

SCRUTINEERING – 7:00 AM TO 9:00 AM

All race vehicles must go through scrutineering.

Scrutineering will take place in the staging lanes, and there’ll be officials there to show you where to go.

REGISTRATION – 7:00 AM TO 9:00 AM

All racers must also register at the yellow Pit Control container.

Please make sure you complete both scrutineering and registration before 9:00 am.

COSTS

  • Race entry – $50
  • NZDRA Day Affiliation – $30 if required
  • Passenger – $30 per person

Remember, two drivers can share the same car. The additional driver must meet the same requirements and register on Sunday morning.

NEW RACERS’ BRIEFING – 9:30 AM

First time down the strip? We’ve got you covered.

Grant will take our new racers through the basics on the startline, explain what to expect and answer your questions before you make your first pass.

DRIVERS’ BRIEFING – APPROX. 9:45 AM

All racers must attend the drivers’ briefing.

We’ll also point out our new Racer Mentor, Geoff Kydd, so new racers know who they can approach during the day if they need some advice or have a question.

A FEW FINAL REMINDERS

  • Street-legal vehicles only
  • No slicks
  • Bring a compliant helmet
  • Drivers need suitable clothing and footwear
  • If you’re taking a passenger, make sure their paperwork is completed too

Give yourself plenty of time on Sunday morning. Getting there early means you can get through the gate, scrutineering and registration without having to rush.

Then it’s time to have some fun!
